Genome of Bulgaria

WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN THE FIRST LARGE-SCALE BULGARIAN PROJECT FOR WHOLE GENOME SEQUENCE "THE GENOME OF BULGARIA"

THE RECRUITMENT OF VOLUNTEERS HAS BEGUN!

The project aims to collect and analyze a representative sample of the genome of the world's Bulgarians, which will also be used in future scientific medical research.

MU-Sofia and MU-Plovdiv participate in the project, within the Scientific University Complex for Biomedical and Applied Research (NUKBPI) and the biobanking network BBMRI.bg, part of the European scientific biobanking infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC.

Molecular Medicine at MU-Sofia will perform the genomic sequencing, data processing and storage and will participate in the construction of the European Genomic Data Infrastructure under the GDI project, funded by the EC and the Ministry of Education and Science.

The project begins with the sequencing of the first 1000 genomes, with which Bulgaria will be able to contribute in the future to the "Genomat of Europe" project in connection with the "1+ Million European Genomes" (1+MG) initiative.

In the long term, the results of this project are expected to lead to better knowledge of the causes of genetic diseases, the implementation of a personalized therapeutic approach, improving prevention and finding innovative solutions in the field of medicine.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT?

To participate in the project, it is necessary:

1. To be an adult Bulgarian citizen.

2. To be free of known hereditary diseases

3. To agree to the pseudonymized genomic data being deposited and accessible for scientific purposes in the common database for the country and Europe.

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT, IT IS NECESSARY:

1. To fill out a questionnaire about your health and origin. To access the survey, use the following link:

2. Write an informed consent and provide biological material (10 ml of blood) for DNA isolation, which will be subjected to full genomic sequencing.
